I’ve told this story before. When we first got married (like, the first week we were home from our honeymoon) I made Papa the Farmer a wonderful spaghetti dinner. He came home from work, looked at it, and his disappointment was obvious.
“What’s wrong? Don’t you like Spaghetti?” I asked.
Not wanting to hurt his new bride’s feelings, Papa the Farmer took some time, struggling to find just the right words.
“No. I like spaghetti. It’s just…. It’s just that we’ve already had spaghetti 3 times this week. And it’s only Tuesday.”
I love pasta! I hadn’t even noticed! Menu Planning Fail.
The main reason my menu plan failed was because I didn’t have one. My idea of planning ahead was asking myself 45 minutes before my husband walked in the door, “What do I feel like eating tonight?” Of course I always feel like eating pasta, so I made it 3 nights in a row without thinking twice about it.
We’ve been married 13 years now and these days, I have a plan to create an allergy friendly menu plan, I’ve given each day a theme as follows:
- Sunday – Vegetable Casserole
- Monday – Try Something New Night
- Tuesday – Soup & Salad
- Wednesday – Patties
- Thursday – Beans
- Friday – “Ethnic” Food
- Saturday – Something Easy That I can Make Ahead of Time
Note: Every meal at the Good Old Days Farm begins with a fresh salad and homemade dressing! You can find our favorite vegetable salad dressing recipes here:
Here’s what we’ll be eating next week at the farm:
Roasted Potato Nuggets
Quinoa Enchilada Casserole
Creamy Thai Carrot Soup
Spiced Samosa Patties with Brown Rice
Sweet Potato Black Bean Quinoa Bowls
Noodles in Thai Peanut Sauce
Saturday leftover, crock pot etc.
Mashed Garbanzo Salad
