(The Good Old Days Farm Family)
Hello! And Happy New Year! Yes, I know it's a bit late, but I've been on a bit of a blogging break… preparing some great resources that I'll be sharing with you in the next few weeks… We've got some free downloads coming and a couple of ebooks, too! I can't wait to share them with you!
Over the holidays we had several new friends join us through the Positively Real Media Kindle Giveaway and I want to give those new friends a big, Texas “Welcome!” It's so nice to meet you and I'm so glad you found us! (And I'm sorry if you didn't win the Kindle! I'll ask my bloggy friends if they'll run that contest again!)
Positively Real Media is a group of like-minded super-talented bloggers who write about natural living, real food and healthy lifestyles. Now, when I say that they are Real Food Bloggers, what I mean is that they write about eating and preparing real food. I'm kind of the black sheep of the group! Health is definitely a huge interest of mine and I do write healthy living and recipe posts, but if someone were to call me a “Real Food Blogger” … it would be because I really write about food.… about the process of growing it… about sustainable agriculture… about what it's like to live on a little sustainable farm and the impact this lifestyle has on an average family….
(We think food tastes better when the “workers” love each other and are having fun!
Ok… Just for the record… the helpers you see here do not do **the bulk** of the work here!)
Our food supply is a mess. The only way I know to change it effective immediately is if ordinary people start growing food… enough to feed our own families food that we know where it comes from and what has and has not been sprayed on it.
We are ordinary people who made a not-so-ordinary decision! In 2010 my husband was a software engineer in Dallas. When the company he was working for went bankrupt he decided to completely switch career tracks and turn our 5 acre yard into a small family farm! What you will read about on this blog is our adventures and misadventures in farming. You'll get plenty of entertainment (since we're definitely learning as we go!) and lots of great information to help you keep your family healthy at home. Everything from growing food, to natural remedies, to healthy recipes, to raising children… After all, the most important thing we raise here is not vegetables… it's children. So along the way you'll read some hints and tricks I've come across that have helped me! I'll also share some sweet, heartwarming family stories. All this, in the context of keeping our Faith strong. We talk about it all here and I'm excited for you to join in the conversation!
So welcome! A big Texas welcome to our new friends… and if you've been with me for a while… welcome back!
Oh! And if you live anywhere near Blue Ridge, Texas… make sure you get on our waiting list! Fresh peaches are just a few months away and you don't want to miss out!
