Today I’m starting something new on the blog… It’s something that has blessed me in the past. I think it will bless you if you join me and I am super excited to be able to extend the invitation to you! Keep Reading and I’ll spill the beans in a minute…
Around the time that we began farming I was invited to join a Community Moms Read Along Bible Study group. It was a group of Homeschool Moms from several different denominations, but the one thing we had in common was we are all serious about our walk with Christ and we want to intentionally disciple our children to live for Him. We met each week and read through various books together… and we had a lot of fun along the way! Our husbands secretly wondered what we were doing that was so much fun!
These women were such a blessing and encouragement to me, during a very difficult transition in my life. (Software to farming sounds romantic on a blog, but in real life there are big challenges!) We forged some deep life long relationships. We could count on each other for prayer and know that our privacy was being respected. We challenged each other to grow in Christ. We came together and served as we saw our sisters in need and although we were from a variety of denominations and meeting in someone’s home, we were a church in the truest sense of the word.
Join Our Read Along!
And now I want to invite you to join a group just like that. It’s called the Good Old Days Farm Read Along! Starting Next Monday we are going to be reading through Messy Beautiful Love (affiliate link) by Darlene Schacht together. (You might know Darlene as the Time Warp Wife.) Right now, the Kindle version of Messy Beautiful Love is only $2.99, but Amazon could change that at any time, so don’t wait to grab yours.
Meet Darlene. And Why I Chose This Book
As bloggers, Darlene and I started crossing paths here and there around Cyber Space. I kept seeing her beautiful images with encouraging quotes coming through my newsfeed and her content was something that I found myself consistently re-sharing in my personal life. She is one of the very few bloggers who I follow because everything she writes makes me think, “Wow!” Over time we developed an online friendship. Then I discovered she was coming to Dallas for a weekend so I emailed her and told her she must let me kidnap her just long enough to take her out for lunch. The picture above is her and I having lunch together last summer.
Over lunch I discovered the “secret power” behind her blog.
Several years ago Darlene decided to go back to school to become an interior designer. She paid the deposit, set aside a year for school and was making all the preparations that go along with going back to school. And then it happened. She felt the Spirit of God tugging at her soul, telling her that Interior Design School was not the path she needed to be taking at that time in her life. After much prayer, she decided to take the hours she would have spent in school and doing homework and study the Bible instead. And that’s exactly what she did. She spent several hours each day studying the Bible.
You can’t spend that much time in God’s Word and not be changed by it. And that change is evident in her writing. That’s why I picked this book to start the Good Old Days Farm Read Along Book Club.
