My Canadian friends are getting ready to send their children back to school tomorrow. Public school has been in session for a couple of weeks already here in Texas, but growing up in Canada, we always began school on the day after Labor Day. Today, one of my old schoolmates posted a poem on Facebook that began, “Twas the night before school started and all through the house…” and ended with “IT’S THE MOST WONDERFUL TIME OF THE YEAR!” Well, I was inspired to be just a little bit silly and write my own Homeschool version. Enjoy!
Twas the night ‘fore the homeschool year was to begin,
And the house was filled with a loud, busy din!
“Get the workboxes ready and the chore system too!
So much to cover, so much to do!
Pull the old crockpot out and put something in it
’cause we’ll have Latin and History to finish!”
We ordered the books and the bill has been paid,
Ready, set, Go! Learning here lasts all day!
We’ll do our schoolwork stretched out on the floor
Math and then Phonics, Music and more!
There’ll be field trips galore, we’ll pile into the bus…
(Because a car is too small to carry the whole group of us!)
With no ringing bell and and no standardized test…
It’s no wonder the kids think their Homeschool’s the best!
The children, the parents, (the husband and wife)
We all agree, it’s the BEST time of life!
