As I announced last week, every Wednesday I will be reviewing a book that I have been reading and inviting any other blog to join in the linky party. It’s Wednesday, so it’s time for “Mama Loves Books”…
This week I want to tell you about a book I’ve read several times. What Happens When Women Pray by Evelyn Christenson is one of my favorite books on prayer! (And I own lots of books about prayer!) The thing about books on prayer is that merely reading about prayer does not help you to develop a richer prayer life. Only actually praying can do that. This book provides the inspiration to knock your prayer life up a notch… no matter where you are in that area, from absolute beginner to an experienced pray-er who leads prayer groups! Using exciting examples from her own experience and a very friendly, frank tone, Evelyn Christenson walks you through the steps of effective intercessory prayer and inspires her readers with solid, scriptural advice. My favorite piece of advice from this book was “Pray Requests, not Answers.” Ouch. How often do we go to God in prayer and say, “Hey God! This is what I’m going to do! Isn’t it a great idea?” when we haven’t asked Him about it first? Or “God please make such-and-such happen” when such-and-such might not be best in the long run. This book will inject excitement and faith into your prayer life and then challenge you as you read about miraculous and obvious answers to prayer (both positive and negative). In short, this tiny volume is a life-changing book!
Have you read a good book lately? I’d love to hear about! If you have a blog, I invite you to link up below. If you don’t have a blog, please tell me about it in the comments!
