Before I got a wee bit sidetracked telling you about important things like our Giveaway and what would happen to you if you never went to the toilet, I was starting to tell you about our recent, very unexpected trip to Tennessee!
After we camped out with our friends, we headed over to a place in Deer Lodge, Tennessee called White Creek Wellness Center. White Creek Wellness Center is a holistic health education center run by our friends Les and Kathie Bauer. Our official reason for being there was so Papa the Farmer could help with the construction of their new seminar building:
but the real reason we all went was because this place is interesting! What fun the children had with their new “grandparents”! We went hiking on their beautiful nature trails:
We watched some pretty fascinating construction… (Ok, it was only fascinating for one person in this picture and I’ll give you a hint: He’s the little guy on the far right!)
Watched the local Ferrier in action:
And had lots of fun exploring the cave:
(Ok, so that’s not really the cave, it’s just the entrance! But they had a mother standing there who wouldn’t let them go any further!)
But what I thought was most interesting of all, was what we learned about holistic health! Since I am taking courses in holistic health, herbs and nutrition, this was an extended field trip for me! As I became friends with some of the patients, they invited me to participate in some of the treatments. What an experience! Check out some of their facilities:
They have an infrared sauna that feels so nice!
Unfortunately for me, the warm, wonderful sauna treatment is followed by a really cold shower. The hot/cold contrast makes you want to sing the Hallelujah Chorus really, really loud! (In fact, I’ve known the occasional person who has done just that and now I understand why!) But I’ll tell you… even Papa the Farmer noticed how soft and smooth my skin felt afterwards!
They also have a hydrotherapy room. See the two bathtubs next to each other? One gets filled with hot water, the other with cold water. You get submersed in the hot water and then the cold water. Again, the contrast of hot and cold is healing for various illnesses.
This table is set up for other hot/cold treatments done with clay packs on various parts of the body… or they can move it out from the wall and their registered massage therapist can work her magic on you. (Unfortunately, while I was there I couldn’t think of any reason that I might need a massage… Other than the fact that I have 3 children, that is!)
We dabbled in a little soapmaking, which of course I’ve done before, but it’s always fun to get tips from someone else!
And we got to have carrot juice or green juice every day! This guest was so sweet! She was making juice for herself and she took the time to show the little farmhands how it’s done and served them each a glass! (They loved it! There’s nothing like freshly squeezed juice!)
And my final, final, favorite picture from our time at White Creek Wellness Center has got to be this one… their herb shelf:
Now that’s a lot of herbs!
