Have you ever prayed about something over and over again like Daniel (in the Bible) did? The book I've been reading this week is a guide to petitioning God in a very specific and prolonged way…
Your 100 Day Prayer by John I Snyder is a daily devotional that walks you through 100 days of focused, intercessory prayer. .. the kind of prayer where we ask, we wait on God, we ask again and we keep waiting. The book begins with a place to record our request followed by a couple of articles about how to use the book and why this kind of repeated petitioning to God is important. Then he dives right in to the main part of the book… The daily devotions are brief. Only about a page and a half in length, they are just long enough to give us focus and inspiration to continue the journey of prolonged intercessory prayer. Not an experienced prayer warrior? No need to feel intimidated because each day Snyder offers ideas of what to say when you pray in the included prayer prompts.
Now I’m generally not a fan of devotionals but this devotional is very different. It’s not intended to be the meat of our devotional experience. Rather, this book is a tool and a very effective one, at that! Each day’s reading is simple and brief. They’re written at an adult level, but I have been reading them to my preschooler. He is able to understand and we both enjoy the readings! The readings share anecdotes that encourage us to persist in our petitions to God and inspire us to accept God’s answer, even when His answer isn't our preference.
Also included in each day's reading is a journal section. I appreciate the reminder to write, but I’m not going to be journaling in the space provided. I am using a separate notebook because I know that after I finish these 100 days of prayer there will be something else that needs prolonged, focused prayer and I am going to want to use this book again and again and again!
